The Society is delighted to host Professor Terence Dooleys Talk entitled”The Burning of Irish Country Houses in the Revolutionary Period 1920-23″ onThursday2nd May at 8pm in the Conyngham Arms Hotel, Slane.


Professor Dooley specialises in Irish social and political history in the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly the history of Irish country houses, the landed classes, land and politics in Independent Ireland, the working of the Land Commission 1916-23 and local history in Ireland.


He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Maynooth, and his recent books include:

“The Irish Revolution1912-23”
“The Decline and Fall of the Dukes of Leinster:love, war, debt, and madness”
“The Murders at Wildgoose Lodge: agrarian crime and punishment in pre-Famine Ireland”.
