Dear Members,
Slane History Society have planned a trip to the Brittas Estate, Nobber, in conjunction with An Taisce on SaturdayMay 25th.
Brittas is interesting historically, having been the home of the Cruise Family since the Norman Invasion in the 12th Century for 500 years until it was taken over by the Bligh Family in the land grab after the Cromwellian Invasion. There are many stories to be told about the place and should make for a very interesting afternoon.
To facilitate sharing cars, we propose that we meet at the carpark on Chapel St Slane at 1.30pm and set off to Brittas where the tour will start at 2.30 SHARP. The journey should take approximately 30 minutes and it is suggested that we travel through Wilkinstown towards Nobber, on the R162 but before Nobber turn left on the L3402 and at the next junction take a right turn towards Kilmainhamwood.
The Brittas Estate will have an entrance on the right on that road- if you reach Kilmainhamwood Nursing home you have gone too far!
There is no entrance fee for this trip, and we are appreciative to An Taisce for the opportunity to make this visit. I am adding a link to the map to this email for your convenience and if you would like a sneak preview of what is in store you can always look up brittasce.com
Hoping to see you there,
Mary McDonnell
