Dear Members,

We have planned another interesting visit for us all- this time a chance to see Killua Castle outside Clonmellon, Co. Westmeath.

The castle was a gaunt ruin when Allen and Lorena Krause from Mexico took it over in 1999, and created a home for themselves. Originally owned by the Chapman family in the 18th century, it has an amazing history. This came to an end in  the last century when the 7th and final baronet left his wife and daughters to live with another woman ; one of the five sons from this union was T.E. Lawrence, otherwise known as Laurence of Arabia.

We have an appointment to be there by 3 oclock on Saturday 22nd of June for a tour of the house. It is easy to get there-travel on the M3 from Navan towards Cavan, turn off on the N62 towards Delvin and Mullingar. Then take the last left turn before Clonmellon into Killua Castle.

You can go directly there or meet up in Slane carpark at 2pm ,in case  somebody might like a lift. The journey will take approximately 45 minutes.

There is no charge for this visit, hope to see you there for what promises to be a pleasant occasion.

With best wishes,
